Boys

Last night Henry and his Mama came over for dinner and afterwards he and Jamie were playing upstairs in Jamie’s room while Kelly and I sat on the couch and knitted and chatted. At one point they ran downstairs demanding bananas, and helped themselves to the bowl on the table, and suddenly I was the mother of a ten year old boy who didn’t need me to facilitate his social interactions or get him his food. If only he could wipe his own butt, I’d be out of a job.

It’s so sweet, how much those two boys seem to adore each other. According to Kelly, Henry told her that he wanted to come to Jamie’s “every night,” and Jamie talked about Henry non-stop after they left, wishing aloud that he could have stayed “always.”

I hope you always have friends like that, kiddo. It’s one of the most important things in the world.

So once we were home, Henry was Wiped Out! We made it upstairs, he refused his bath and I picked him up to carry him into his room

And I clunked his head into the door frame.

Then when getting him into his PJs, I scratched his leg with a snaggly finger nail.

Henry, still sobbing from the door clunk, looked at me and said, “I want to go back to Jamie’s.”

    Sigh.

Had a blast — thanks for dinner!

I am so desperately jealous! If it weren’t for all of the bad drivers, I’d move to Ohio (haha).

It is so nice when they have little friends. Jack has a friend, Nathaniel, at school that he loves in the same way.
