What happened next

Yet another trip down memory lane…these posts may not be interesting to anyone but me, and I apologize for that. But Jamie’s first birthday is just around the corner and since this blog is really all about him in one way or another, I want to reflect on my pregnancy and his birth a bit.

——————————————————–

So, after we found out we were expecting, I realized I was now tied to Mad Dog forever, like it or not, and that was pretty frightening. We’d been through so much therapy, only to arrive at the same spot over and over. But after about a month or so after we found out, something changed. I think MD realized he wanted to be a good father. He started looking around at other men in his life that had children, looking at what he wanted to emulate and what he wanted to avoid. We started having conversations about how we both wanted things to be, and he went back to therapy. This time, it was for him, and him only. Which of course made a difference.

And he changed. He became more considerate, started communicating better. He’d always operated under the assumption that less was more when it came to sharing information. Even me, his wife, he wanted to keep guessing to a certain extent, to keep some sort of control over his life and situations. This all changed.

In a way, my pregnancy was that honeymoon period that many newlyweds experience. We were so close, so bonded, so in sync, so affectionate. I’m so grateful for his transformation. Things aren’t perfect, by any stretch of the imagination, but when I think about how things were, and what they’ve become, it’s a change that is amazing.

As for me, I had a pretty uneventful pregnancy. I gained very little weight, which was a good thing since I started out a little overweight. I had severe sciatica and general nerve pain in both legs. To the extent that walking and standing for any length of time was excruciatingly painful. But other than that, everything went as it should have.

Here’s a picture from this time last year, a week before Jamie was born:

I meant “your” hair style because as much I like it, I’m not, you know, in love with your hair. Ha.

What a cute pregnancy pic! God, compared to you, I looked like such a whale when I was pregnant.
