That’s how long it’s been since we’ve had a blizzard ’round these parts. I was 7 in Jan. 1978, and I have fond memories of the several days we were snowbound. We had wood burning stoves on each floor, so staying warm wasn’t a problem. Thanks to my grandparents’ Depression mentality, we had enough canned [...]

Ok, if you had a bedroom with periwinkle walls and black bedroom furniture and most blue or sage sheets, and were buying a new duvet cover that needed to a) be machine washable and b) have some sort of pattern on it because of the damn dogs (both items), which would you buy?

Taos was great, but there was limited internet access and I was never alone and free to post. Photos up at flickr.
Here’s a shot of the main building at our B&B from our room:
Gorgeous, huh? Love that blue sky.
Here’s the moon rising over Taos:
I’m a little annoyed that now with a free account at flickr [...]
How our garden grows

You’ll have to indulge me in this, but growing produce is as attractive to me as flowers. I can’t resist taking and posting these pictures.
The vegetable/herb patch. Contents include: eggplant, cucumber, zucchini, green bell peppers, banana peppers, tomatoes (two varieties, romas and big or best boys, can’t recall), rosemary, dill/tarragon that came back from last [...]
Summer supper

Jamie can’t stay up later in the summertime – a definite disadvantage to being a daycare kid – and so the warm weather and extended daylight find us cramming as much summer fun as possible into our all-to-brief weeknights. One small problem – the thing that is most time-consuming is the preparation and eating of [...]
Unexpected treasure

MD and I don’t stand to inherit a lot of heirloom furniture or china or whatever. We have some nice crystal from his great-grandma and my grandma, and everyday silver from both of them as well, and I always figured that would be it. But then MD’s grandma asked if we wanted her china cabinet [...]
Snow days

One potty-training, boundaries-pushing two year old + one crabby, pmsing mama + a big ole snow storm that brings the city to a halt and makes driving near impossible without friendly samaritans willing to give you a good push when needed = an intersting two days.
Here’s Jamie about 15 minutes before he got sent to [...]
Garden report

We ripped out the vegetable and herb garden earlier today. Our success this year was mixed. The basil went insane. We had three plants – regular, cinnamon, and purple – and even with careful pinching they ended up taller than Jamie. Sadly, much of what was left on the plants prior to Jamie’s surgery died [...]
Hibernation and personal growth, all in one post!

Some time on Sunday we were all hanging out in the family room, which was a disaster. I looked around at the mess and commented on how it was too bad we didn’t get any chores done this weekend. MD laughed and said, "Uh, speak for yourself sweetheart." And I realized he had cleaned the [...]
